With Thanksgiving this week, we realized a lot of you will be traveling. That the change in schedule can throw off anyone’s fitness routine. Here is a great post from Orange Coast CrossFit about keeping fit while traveling:
Many of us CrossFitter’s have our normal routine. We come into CrossFit X amount of times a week at the exact same time and work out with the exact same people. We love it.
But then you get that phone call that you have to travel for work the following week or to visit family. Before you know it you are taking 4-7 days off from CrossFit and come back feeling slower and weaker.
I wanted to write this blog because to encourage you to visit other gyms when you are out of town. I just got back from Maui and trained at Crossfit Lahaina for four days…it was a blast!
Some of the benefits I found from training at other boxes:
- Learning something new! Each coach has a different way of explaining something or correcting a position. A different coach may give you a different cue that clicks with you on a movement you’ve been struggling with.
- Use different equipment! I will be the first to admit that when there’s a pull-up workout I head straight to the short pull up bar with the tape. I can look around and know exactly where each one of my friends and fellow athletes will head also. It is because we’re comfortable there. We know what feels best and it’s safe. When I am trying out a new CF gym I have no clue what the bar is going to feel like or what jump rope is going to be the right length for me. But this is a GOOD thing-we aren’t always going to have the perfect equipment for our bodies at our disposal. Training with foreign equipment is helping us train for the unknown.
- Meet new CrossFitters! Obviously if you are traveling to different cities each trip, this is a great way to learn about the culture and meet new people. However, if you frequently travel to a specific destination a lot, this is a great opportunity to get connected to a CF gym.
